Sadako Sasaki

After the UN-event, we went out for lunch together. We had delicious bento boxes with rice, prawns, chicken, egg and vegetables. We then visited Hiroshima Castle, where we were able to learn about japanese history, try on samurai helmets and enjoy the view over the city from the top. We then went to the statue of Sadako Sasaki, the girl who fell ill with leukemia after the atomic bombing and became famous for folding 1,000 paper cranes. There we hung up the cranes we had made ourselves as a sign of peace. Afterwards, a survivor of the atomic bombing told us her story. It was very moving to hear her words and experiences.
